ZEC members are foolish or incompetent

THREE weeks after the elections in Zimbabwe, it boggles the mind that the presidential results are still to be released. The reason given by the powers that be bring two very interesting scenarios concerning the ZEC.

The first scenario is that ZEC, being an impartial and independent body, still has not completed the verification of the results. If we are to assume this is so, then this is a body composed of the most incompetent fools in the history of mankind.

Even if we were to take 10-year old primary school kids and tell them to put the ballot papers according to where the vote is, while other are counting and tallying the results, they would have come up with the results by now. To think that grown-up people, paid to do just that job can go for three weeks shows how incompetent and useless they are. When we were young and in school, we used to call such people madofo or idiots.

The second scenario which a lot of people believe is that ZEC is under pressure from external forces, the government. But ZEC has dismissed this.  If this second scenario is true, then why are the ZEC people not resigning?

I thought the chairman was a judge, and judges are there to uphold justice, and are supposed to be honourable people in society. Honourable people do not stoop so low as to have their reputations tarnished by being party to a system that seeks to oppress the very people they are meant to protect.

By way of illustration, I do not have as much respect for Dr Simba Makoni as I have for Dr Nkosana Moyo. The former waited to be fired by an incompetent leader, while the latter left a system that he was not comfortable with. While they might be together now, their reputations to me are very different.
