Mugabe’s “farewell speech” was spot on
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed reading your article published on the Zimbabwe Times website on Monday on what could be a very good speech from President Robert Mugabe to the people of Zimbabwe. It was a great piece on “passing the baton”.
Like other Zimbabweans, I pray and hope that Mugabe will realise that there is no other way out. Although he may feel that he is not ready, his time is long overdue. My advice to him is that after retirement he continues to leave home at the usual time; whether he heads for the golf course, the library, or wherever. Once he retires he will be amazed at the variety of opportunities that will appear for the investment of his time.
I think it is important that people like you write articles such as this. People assume that dictators are immune to what the world says. Yet when the Americans arrived in Baghdad, they found that Saddam Hussein, Tarik Aziz and many of their cronies actually collected profiles and articles on themselves from the likes of The Times (UK) and other newspapers.
